The Conference on Crimes Against Women provides practical instruction, using current information, the newest ideas and most successful intervention strategies, to those professionals responsible for combating the many and varied forms of crimes against women. The Conference is conducted for the sole purpose of providing training to only those people employed by governmental or non-profit agencies in the fields of law enforcement, prosecution, social work, victim's advocacy, therapy, probation/parole, campus safety, and medicine who work directly with victims of crime.
The Crime Victims' Institute is a state-appropriated research unit whose legislative mandate is to serve victims in Texas by conducting research to better understand victimization, improve victim services, assist crime victims, and inform local- and state-level policy. Sam Houston State University is also home to the nation’s first Department of Victim Studies under the College of Criminal Justice. In addition to the work already being done in the Criminal Justice and Criminology department, the Department of Victim Studies will continue the commitment in advancing research on victimization issues in Texas and training the next generation of professionals.

Institute for Coordinated Community Response provides a full year of training, resources, networking opportunities, and technical assistance for rural, under resourced Texas counties who are motivated to improve their systemic response to domestic violence through the creation of a Coordinated Community Responses. Applications for the 2021 ICCR cohort are now open.
